Plumbing Permit

Plumbing Permit

A plumbing permit is required for most new plumbing installations, replacements, or alterations to an existing plumbing system, including fixtures, appliances, piping, drains, waste, and vent systems.

Plumbing work must generally be completed by a licensed plumbing contractor. However, homeowners who live in the property may perform certain plumbing work with a permit, including:

  • Replacing certain plumbing fixtures and appliances when no alteration to the existing plumbing system is required
  • Replacing a water heater
  • Installing or replacing a clear water sump pump and related discharge piping
  • Installing certain stormwater conveyance systems that do not connect directly to the City storm sewer

Permits are generally not required for routine repairs to existing fixtures or appliances that do not alter the plumbing system.
