Street Occupancy Permit for Paving

This Street Occupancy Permit is required anytime drive approach, sidewalk or other paving or parking surface is constructed or replaced in the City public right-of-way.

How to Apply

Apply online using our self-service portal (search for “Street Occupancy – Paving” in the apply permits screen). You can upload any needed documents and process payments online.

Fees

The standard permit fee is $150, and $75 per inspection. Additional fees may be required based on the scope of work. A refundable street deposit may be required based on the scope of work.
You will receive all permit fees and invoices through the self-service portal. Pay by credit card, in person, or through the mail.
Include “Attention: Engineering Services” on mailed envelopes or drop them off in our Secure Payment Depository Drop Box. Make checks payable to “City of Wauwatosa” and clearly identify the purpose for the payment on the check (e.g., “Street Occupancy Permit Application”).

Submission Requirements

If you are planning on replacing or widening your driveway approach, a plan showing the location of the work must be submitted with the permit application. A plan can be created from an aerial view (such as Google Maps) or from a picture. The use of an image from Google street view is acceptable. The plan should include the following information:

  • Width of the drive approach at the curb opening (existing and proposed)
  • Width of the driveway at the property line (existing and proposed)
  • If a sidewalk crosses the drive approach, indicate if the sidewalk will be replaced and the extent of the sidewalk replacement.
